Student Work: 3-D Action Figures

For the last month
my Art I classes have been working on
3-D Action Figures.

The goal of this project was to teach students about
 PROPORTION, FORM, & MOVEMENT.
Before starting the figures, we did several activities
observing and measuring the human body.

From there, we created a wire armature based on the proportions we observed.
Once the proportion was set, we discussed form.
Students built up form using newspaper &  masking tape.
The figures were positioned into the action pose of the students' choice
before the form was completely built up.
This allowed the form to look more accurate
and to be determined by the movement.

Once the figure was in the correct position
and the form was completely built up,
students began paper mache.

While the paper mache was drying,
students built props and sets for their action figures.
The bases are made out of insulation boards from Lowe's.

Here are some examples but there are more to come.
These were just too good not to share!
