My Humanities classes just finished a unit on Modern and Post-Modern art.
This is by far my favorite unit of the year!!
The class was divided into ten groups.
Each group was assigned to research one of the following art movements:
Impressionism
Post-Impressionism
Cubism
Surrealism
Abstract Expressionism
Dadaism
Pop-Art
Hard-Edge Painting
Conceptualism
Found-Object Sculpture
Then they gave a 20-minute presentation on thier art movement to the whole class.
After the research and presentations were complete,
each group created an artwork in the style of their art movement.
{It is a great way to formally assess the students without giving them a written test.}
It is amazing how much they remember about each others' art movements
after watching them create the artwork in class.
Here are a few of my favorite "masterpieces":
Obama Cubism based on Picasso's work |
Campbell's Soup Pop Art based on Andy Warhol's work |
Ballerina Impressionism based on Edgar Degas' work |
Rose Surrealism based on Rene Magritte's work |
Clay Collage Dadaism |
Language Conceptualism |
Splatter Abstract Expressionism based on the Jackson Polluck's work |
Flower Power Pop Art based on Andy Warhol's work |
#53 Hard Edge based on Frank Stella's work |
One in Three Rulers Conceptualism based on Joseph Kosuth's work |
Rocks Post-Impressionism based on the work of Paul Gauguin |
Sorry the work is out of chronological order.
Once I uploaded the pictures,
it was really difficult to change the order.
