Student Work

My Art 1 class is finishing up a unit on color theory.

Our culminating project is the cleverly titled Color Pattern Project.

Students have the freedom to select a pattern of their choice
as long as it is repetitive and has at least three colors.

Students glue a small section of the pattern to their paper
and then continue the pattern by redrawing it with accurate proportions
on the remainder of their paper.

From there they section their paper into 5 (roughly) equal sections.
Each section is an exploration in color mixing
(they are only given the primary colors, black, and white)
and understanding the properties of value and intensity.

The students always use thier original pattern as their guide
when they complete the sections as follows:

Section 1: Match the original
Section 2: Complementary colors
Section 3: Low Intensity
Section 4: Math the original
Section 5: Grayscale

Accomodation for student with special needs: use a monochromatic pattern
and colored pencils rather than paint
