Student Work: Watercolor Still Lifes

Following this lesson,
my Art 1 students created watercolor still lifes.

I spent about 3 weeks teaching watercolor basics and techniques
before giving students the opportunity to apply their previously acquired drawing talent
in conjunction with their newly discovered watercolor skills
to create a fun painting of whatever objects they chose.

The rubric I created for this project
focused on evaluating the following:
1. Accuracy of contour drawings
2. Balance within the composition
3. Value range achieved
4. Accuracy of mixed colors
5. Overall craftsmanship

^^^ This one cracks me up! I gave them freedom in painting their backgrounds.^^^
