Keeping It Classy

The hubs and I had quite a classy day today.
Unfortunately, they were independent of each other.

I will start with mine
since it is much less of a deal than his day.

Louisville Orchestra

Today we took the NOHS Humanities classes
perform works composed by Haydn, Ravel, & Stravinsky.

Haydn --- Symphony No. 83, "La poule"
Ravel --- Sheherazade
Stravinsky --- Petrushka

My favorite was Petrushka.
Composed in 1910-11 by Stravinksy
this ballet portrays a story of a Russian puppet
that comes to life and develops emotions.

Check out an awesome video of the ballet here.

Stravinksy is most famous for his The Rite of Spring
which he composed in 1913.
When this ballet premiered it provoked a riot
and left him a legend for pushing the boundaries of musical design.

Some of our students really enjoyed the orchestra.
Some were so into it they were leaning forward in their chairs!
(*BIG deal for teenagers*)
One boy was mindlessly conducting during the concert (it was adorable).

Some were not as into it --
in fact, there was one whole section
that looked like they had been hitting the NyQuil a little too hard.
But, thats high school for ya -- what can you do?

Overall, it was a great experience and definitely classy.
(I wore a skirt today -- a rarity for an art teacher!)

While I was occupied culturing my students at the orchestra,
my husband was in Washington D.C.
listening to Bill Clinton speak at the USDA Outlook Forum.
(Told you his day was way cooler than mine.)

Al told me he was really good,
a balance between a good ol' country boy
and a really intelligent and eloquent speaker.

Apparently, security was pretty steep,
as one would expect.

Hope you had a wonderful & classy Thursday!
