Student Work: Casting from Life

My 3D students have been studying the works of artists
for our unit on casting form from life.

Instead of forcing my students to work with
either plaster gauze OR packing tape,
this year I decided to give my students both options.

In addition to choosing which medium they preferred,
students also were to incorporate a meaningful found object
to interact with their casting
to help the viewer interpret their concept.
They also had the choice of dealing with the surface texture or leaving it as is.
However, they were to make this choice intentionally
and incorporate that decision into the meaning behind the piece as well.

Students are always graded on the following criteria:
CONCEPT
3D COMPOSITION
USE OF MEDIA
CRAFTSMANSHIP

Here is a sampling of their work:

 Pray

The Reach

The World is in Our Hands

Tired

The Climb

Silent Paradise

Cradle
